The Italian-built Type 6614 is a 4x4 armored personnel carrier produced jointly by the FIAT and Oto Melara defense firms. The Type 6614 is commanded by a single individual (driver) with provisions for up to 10 combat-ready passengers, equipment or medical litters. Mission-specific armament (including a dual-mounted .30 caliber machine gun setup) can be mounted on a powered cupola and firing ports (a total of 9 - four on the left side, three on the right and two rear-facing) are afforded the interior passengers. The Type 6614 is very similar to the Type 6616 armored car and is completely amphibious (powered by its own wheels and an integrated bilge pump system). Passive armor is available, as are smoke grenade dischargers, for added protection to the crew and cargo areas. In all, the FIAT / Oto Melara Type 6614 is an adaptable-frame vehicle suitable for many mission-assignments, one role of which is currently serving in urban warfare and defense throughout Iraq with the Italian security services. The Type 6614 is also produced locally in South Korea under license.
