Although, the legendary Starfighter was overburdened in fulfilling the roles of fighter, strategic nuclear fighter, reconnaissance aircraft and naval aircraft, it was very popular as the "Porsche of all jets" among the pilots. 292 crashes and 116 killed pilots during its operating time from 1960 to 1991 at the German Federal Air Force gave the Fighter the commonly known and little complimentary name "widow maker". Herpa honors this important, although controversial airplane with this model, registered JA+116 of the Jagdgeschwader-71 Richthofen from Wittmund, East Friesland.
