Although "only" an Air National Guard Unit based in Louisiana, the 122nd Squadron regularly takes part in international operations of the U.S. Air Force, more recently on air superiority missions over Iraq and Afghanistan. The unit's nickname originates from the typical swamp landscape of Southern Louisiana with its slowing moving streams and creeks, called bayous.
