Hawker Hart Mk I | 4.75" | 6.25" |
First flown in 1928, the Hawker Hart had outstanding performance for a bomber of that period. Able to out run and outperform the RAF's then current fighters, the aircraft immediately proved to be very popular with its crews. Over 400 were produced and they served with the RAF throughout the 1930s, both at home and all across the British Empire. Never issued for service in the RAF, this Hart was instead retained by Hawker, operating as a test and development machine. Post war it was entered into the King's Cup Air Race, before being flown at a number of air shows and appearing in exhibitions throughout the 1960s and 70s. In 1972 it was transferred to the RAF Museum where it is today, suspended from the ceiling in the Milestones of Flight building.
