"Nancy" represents a rare breed of convoy escorts that was armed with the devastating firepower of the M55 anti-aircraft weapon system. With American dominance of the airspace over Vietnam, artillery trucks that had been converted in the 1950's to transport anti-aircraft guns were diverted from this mission to convoy escort roles.
