Messerschmitt Me 329 | 9.5" | 4.25" |
With the failure of the Me 210/410, the Messerschmitt factory focused on developing a more efficient and stable aircraft capable of being manufactured in multiple variants: heavy day fighter, night fighter, fighter bomber and reconnaissance. Due to its development late in the war, strategic materials were scarce so the inital design was mocked-up in wood. The wing had a 26 degree swept-back angle and the engines drove pusher airscrews with a 3.4 meter diameter. Armament included four nose-mounted MG151/20s, two MK103 cannons in the wing roots and a remote controlled nose gun position with a periscope-aimed MG121/20 cannon. It was also capable of carrying up to 2400 kilograms of bombs in the bomb-bay and on external racks. By the end of the war only the prototype wooden mock-up had been made.
