On April 14th, 1944 Flt. Lt. Robert Kipp and his navigator Flt. Lt. Peter Huletsky set out with another Mosquito to Denmark for a high-speed, low-level "Day Ranger" mission. Over the Kattegatt (Denmark-Sweden Strait), Kipp engaged two Ju 52/3ms fitted with minesweeping rings and shot both of them down, so achieving ace status. Coincidentally, his wingman, Flg Off. John Cain, also shot down two Junkers minesweepers to become an aceo. Kipp then attacked an airfied, destroying two Do 217s on the ground and damaging a third, before returning home at the end of a very successful sortie. Kipp received a DFC soon afterwards. His aircraft, "Black Rufe", was later wrecked in a landing accident at Hunsdon on November 1st, 1944.
