The US Air Force played a major role in Europe after they entered the war following the bombing of Pearl Harbour. One of their key aircraft was the P47D Thunderbolt or to give it its proper title Republic P47D Thunderbolt. It is the heaviest and largest fighter aircraft in history to be powered by a 4-stroke internal combustion engine. Taking its first flight on 6th May 1941, the Thunderbolt was nicknamed The Jug by its pilots and served successfully in all theatres of the conflict.

Our 1:72 model depicts the P47D Thunderbolt USAAF 42-8412 "Sweetie" as flown by Lt. Col Luther Richmond. The saucy 'Sweetie' nose art, a distinctive feature on American wartime aircraft, is printed in detail towards the front of the fuselage. Note too, the 'kills' printed below the cockpit window. The dark green upper surface and fuselage are painted in dark green with grey underside with the US Air Force insignia printed in contrasting red, white and blue on the wings and rear fuselage. Even the gun barrels on the front of each of the wings are finely detailed with a black finish on an aircraft which deserves a place on your World War II Allied airfield.
