The PBY is a nine seat, long range maritime patrol bomber (amphibian flying boat). The US Navy first used the 5-series Catalina in 1939. During WWII, 21 squadrons used this aircraft. Besides the US Navy and Air Force, the RAF, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian governments bought PBY's from Boeing. These planes were equipped with four-five machine guns and 4,000 lbs. of bombs or depth charges.
